It’s the year 2021 and the peak of the Corona crisis: mandatory masks, ban on gatherings, curfew – not the best conditions for founding a band. Despite the adverse conditions and restrictions, the 5 experienced rock musicians come together to form a new band.
The rehearsal room of the 5 rockers is located in a hidden basement compartment of a run-down industrial complex in Munich, which the five musicians affectionately call GRANDPAS BASEMENT – a self-ironic name for their refuge and ultimately also the name for the band.
„Imagine a place that is all for yourself.“ Where you can forget about the world, warfare, the wall of hate and scorn out there. Hanging around with the guys, talking shit, having some beer, grabbing the guitar and jamming together. This is a very special place, it’s mystic, it’s vital, it’s our shelter. It is GRANDPAS BASEMENT.
In 2023, Grandpa’s first album „NO REGRETS“ was released, whose title and title song of the same name expresses the credo of the band members, which is based on relevant life experiences. Live and enjoy the moment, don’t regret anything past and be open to what’s coming. It all makes sense.
The formation around front man Flowner (Florian Weigel – vocals) with Stef (Stefan Obendorfer – guitar), Gery (Gerald Schomacker – guitar), Joe (Joachim Nieters – bass) and M-Jay (Martin Kastner – drums) stands for a powerful guitar sound with driving bass lines and explosive drums: dynamic, wild and loud.
Hard guitar riffs contrast with spherical soundscapes, psychedelic elements and melodic leads, accompanied by a charismatic lead voice with partially lyrical, partially aggressive, sometimes controversial lyrics. Always in the name of brotherhood, unity, freedom and peace among people.
Stylistically, GRANDPAS BASEMENT is difficult to assign to a specific music genre. The songs stand on their own and reveal not only hard and heavy or hard rock components but also characteristic blues, stoner and metal influences.
